Meeting a Seinfeld Super Star!

I am such a huge Seinfeld fan and love the character played by Jason Alexander, George Costanza in the ‘90’s sitcom. I’ve watched every single episode multiple times, it’s my favourite television show ever. You can imagine how amazing it was to have the opportunity to meet Jason in Los Angeles last year after he completed a comedic musical performance. He is so talented and hilarious to watch him in full flight.

The Seinfeld series ran from 1989 to 1998 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms of all-time! It has been ranked among the best television shows of all time in publications such as Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and TV Guide. CNBC reported that Jerry Seinfeld turned down more than $110 million to produce a tenth season of Seinfeld in the late 1990s. By the ninth season Jerry Seinfeld was making $1 million per episode and the remaining cast of George, Elaine and Kramer were making $600,000 per episode. For a television series that was often described as a “show about nothing” …the immense worldwide success of Seinfeld is definitely something!

Who was George Costanza? Sony Pictures describes George as being “Jerry’s best friend and has been since high school.  He is miserly, dishonest, petty and envious of others’ achievements.” Wikipedia describes George as “depicted as a loser who is perpetually insecure about his capabilities. He complains and lies easily about his profession, relationships and almost everything else, which usually creates trouble for him later. He often uses the alias Art Vandelay when lying or concocting a cover story. Despite these shortcomings, George has a sense of loyalty to his friends and success in dating women and eventually secures a successful career as Assistant to the Traveling Secretary for the New York Yankees”. There are so many episodes of Seinfeld that I could rate as favourites, but in keeping with my meeting of Jason, I do love The Summer of George, The Invitations and it’s hard to go past Elaine’s dancing debut in The Little Kicks. They just don’t make them like this anymore!

What was great about meeting Jason Alexander was that I discovered so many unique qualities about him that were fascinating. I’m sure you all know the character George that he plays on Seinfeld, but I was amazed to learn what an incredibly diverse background Jason has:

·       Jason Alexander is not his real name, it’s his stage name. Jason was born Jay Greenspan and is aged 59 years old.
·       As well as being an actor, he is voice actor, singer, comedian and director
·       In his role as George Costanza in Seinfeld, Jason was nominated for seven Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes.
·       His best-known roles in the movies are as Philip Stuckey in the movie Pretty Woman and Mauricio in Shallow Hal.
·       As a singer and performer, Jason has appeared in several Broadway musicals and won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in the show Jermone Robbins Broadway.
·       Jason performs the voice for several animated television and movie productions.
·       He loves his basketball and martial arts and has been married for 37 years with two children.
·       Jason has been a prominent public supporter of OneVoice initiative, which seeks out the opinions for Iralies and Palestinians who want to achieve a mutual peace agreement between their society.

When asked about his health and fitness, Jason says that he has “struggled with his weight his entire life.” He says that since Seinfeld has ended “the industry has typecast me as George” so he would love to lose some weight and put some distance between Jason and George to enable him to get a more diverse range of acting roles. In 2010, Jason became a spokesman for Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centres to help him drop the unnecessary kilograms. Jason says that junk food is a weakness “…twinkies are one of my favourites” and was consuming up to a massive 4,500 calories per day. Just goes to show you how calories add up. Jason said he cut his daily intake to 1,500 calories per day and began to workout five days per week. In five weeks, he lost six kilograms.

Guess what? Celebrities are real people too! They may have fame and wealth, but they have the same struggles with optimising their health just like we do. In fact, due to their incredibly hectic schedules, they are often faced with more time pressures than we do. The secret to success is following simple step-by-step strategies that can simply and easily be immersed into your life. Consistent implementation is crucial. It doesn’t have to be an insurmountable level of painful workouts and endless dieting. In fact, if this is what it does look like it’s going to be short-lived. Life-sustainable nutrition and exercise plans are the only way I work with clients. I’ve spent the last 30 years dedicated to finding the best nutrition program, most efficient strength and cardiovascular workouts, combined with the best coaching techniques, to deliver 100% guaranteed results.
